With Microgrid 2017 sold out, Microgrid Knowledge today announced that registration is now open for its next conference, Microgrid 2018 to be held May 7-9 in Chicago.
“Microgrid 2018: Markets and Models for the Greater Good” will explore the essential need for microgrids in today’s electricity-dependent society.
Word of the next event came as more than 450 microgrid industry insiders gathered at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston for Microgrid 2017, held November 6-8.
“Microgrid 2017 was the largest microgrid event yet worldwide. The conference sold out several days in advance, with attendance almost triple our 2016 microgrid event in New York City,” said Elisa Wood, editor-in-chief of Microgrid Knowledge. “This show’s success reflects the rapid changes and growth developing in the microgrid market.”
Wood noted that the microgrid market is forecast to grow to $23 billion in 2021, up from $12 billion in 2016, according to research by GlobalData. Microgrids are part of the larger rise in distributed energy that Navigant Research sees developing into an $182 billion market by 2023.
A gathering for the industry’s thought leaders, Microgrid 2018 will focus on uncovering market opportunities and business models to drive the industry forward.
The 2018 microgrid event also will examine the public purpose served by microgrids, underscored during recent hurricanes.
“With the deaths of nursing home patients in Florida following Hurricane Irma, and the continued suffering of millions of Puerto Ricans who remain without power, clearly microgrids are not a nice-to-have-technology but a must-have,” Wood said. “Microgrids are vital infrastructure in our electricity-dependent society.”
