Don’t Miss the Chance to Tour Ameren’s Cybersecure Microgrid at Microgrid 2018

March 6, 2018
Microgrid 2018 attendees have the chance to tour Ameren’s first-of-its-kind cybersecure microgrid at this years event — to be held in Chicago May 7-9.

Cybersecurity is top of mind for the microgrid industry as it works to create the most resilient and secure energy system possible. With this in mind, Microgrid 2018 organizers are offering an opportunity to tour Ameren’s first-of-its-kind cybersecure microgrid at this years event — to be held in Chicago May 7-9.

Register here to attend the conference and tour this and other operating microgrids.

The Ameren tour is scheduled for May 10. The event kicks off at 7:45 a.m. with a bus ride, and the tour will go from 10:30 a.m. until noon.

Tour attendees will have a chance to see the first utility military-grade microgrid controller, manufactured by IPERC, an S&C Electric subsidiary. The system’s controller, called the GridMaster, stands out as the only microgrid controller that has obtained an Authority to Operate (ATO) from the Department of Defense.

Instead of having a central controller — one point of contact that can be attacked — cybersecure microgrids decentralize their control functions.

The Ameren microgrid also stands out in that it serves paying customer loads on a utility distribution feeder — a first for a utility in North America. The microgrid’s distributed generation can be delivered directly to local customers, routed to the central grid or stored in the microgrid’s battery.

Check out highlights above from the sold-out Microgrid 2017 conference.

This tour of a working cybersecure microgrid is just one of the specialized tours of working microgrids that will be offered during Microgrid 2018.

Additional tour options for attendees — scheduled for May 9th during the conference — include:

  • Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium microgrid in development
  • The Illinois Institute of Technology’s working microgrid
  • S&C Electric Smart Grid Solutions Demonstration Center

In addition to these microgrid tours, the three-day conference features expert speakers, lively panel discussions, in-depth workshops, technology forums, vendor booths and extensive networking opportunities.

A confluence of drivers are coming together to push emerging microgrid markets, and the upcoming event will focus on the largest of these markets, exploring them in detail for attendees of the event.
