The Clean Secret Behind Diesel

Sept. 6, 2021
We all love renewable energy, but sometimes there are microgrid applications that require combustible generation. We also know there are a lot of myths out there regarding the costs, complexity, and cleanliness of diesel fuel technology. In this Microgrid Knowledge webinar, we’ll debunk some of these myths.

Diesel generators are increasingly in the news in light of their growing use in places like California where utilities have installed quick-build diesel microgrids to ward off wild-fire related power outages. We all love renewable energy, but sometimes there are microgrid applications that require combustible generation. We also know there are a lot of myths out there regarding the costs, complexity, and cleanliness of diesel fuel technology. In this Microgrid Knowledge webinar, Chris Ellis of PowerSecure, Jim McDonald of Miratech, and Darren Tasker of Volvo Penta will debunk some of these myths.

The webinar includes discussion of the following topics:

  • Explain the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Tier 4 final emission standards
  • Describe who can use diesel technology and its benefits
  • Sort myths from facts about the technology
  • Explore options for use of Tier 4 generators by commercial and industrial operations

The speakers also will discuss power density, operational flexibility, emergency backup performance, block loading capability and transient performance. In addition, the video explores costs and how they can be offset through use of Tier 4 diesel generators in peak shaving, load management and other services.

The webinar is moderated by Elisa Wood, editor-in-chief of Microgrid Knowledge and features a Q&A session that was captured during the live webinar.

Featured speakers include:

Chris Ellis, Executive Vice President Distributed Infrastructure, PowerSecure

Jim McDonald, Director of Environmental Impact,
Miratech

Darren Tasker, Vice President of Industrial Sales, Volvo Penta of the Americas
