The California Energy Commission seeks to compile information on the widest range of green building services, products, and technologies – from LED lighting to green roofing to solar photovoltaics to 21st century window treatments – that can be implemented to improve the operations of the Energy Commission building.

The Energy Commission’s building retrofit comes in direct response to Governor Brown’s Executive Order B-18-12,which requires state agencies to:

  • Take actions to reduce entity-wide greenhouse gas emissions by at least 10 percent by 2015 and 20 percent by 2020, as measured against a 2010 baseline
  • Continue taking measures to reduce grid-based energy purchases by at least 20 percent by 2018, as compared to a 2003 baseline
  • Obtain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification
  • Take measures toward achieving zero net energy

The Energy Commission building is a four-story, 180,000 square foot building that opened in 1982. The rectangular building encloses a large covered atrium with open-air spaces where staff can conduct meetings, take breaks and network with colleagues and visitors.

The goal of this Request for Information is to compile information on the widest range of green building services, products, and technologies – from LED lighting to green roofing to solar photovoltaics to 21st century window treatments – that can be implemented to improve the operations of the Energy Commission building. The Energy Commission envisions the building being transformed from a solid performer into one of the most resource-efficient buildings in the world.

After collecting information from this RFI, the Energy Commission plans on issuing one or more Requests for Proposals, which will seek formal proposals from businesses and other organizations who wish to participate on a 100 percent cost-share basis in the Energy Commission’s efforts to improve the building performance.

Proposals are due by November 11, 2013.
