Dynapower Brings its Inverter Technology to Microgrid in India

Vermont company Dynapower has for the first time brought its inverter technology to a microgrid in India, while also strengthening its position in India’s emerging energy storage market through a new business agreement.

Located near Delhi in Sahibadad, Uttar Pradesh, the 1-MW commercial and industrial microgrid serves Central Electronics Limited (CEL), a manufacturer of solar photovoltaic (SPV) cells, modules and systems.


The microgrid uses solar and diesel gensets alongside energy storage and employs Dynapower’s CPS-1000 inverter.

Grid-connected, the microgrid can offer frequency regulation, PV smoothing and peak shaving to curb CEL’s electric bills. During a grid outage, it islands from the grid and serves its host by way of its locally controllable distributed generation.

Dynapower’a dynamic transfer technology monitors the grid and seamlessly transitions the CEL facility from grid-tied to back up battery power in the event of a grid disturbance.

To further its reach in India, Dynapower also has signed a technology transfer and licensing agreement with global player Raychem RPG.

The agreement will bring Dynapower’s energy storage inverter technology to India and neighboring South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation countries.

The companies made the deal as India’s solar and microgrid market grows and increases demand for energy storage. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently hailed solar plus storage as the next big technological revolution in India.

Dynapower has supplied over 400 MWs of energy storage inverters, DC-DC Converters, and fully-integrated energy storage systems worldwide. Its energy storage inverters power the largest wind plus storage farm in the US, the 36-MW NoTrees, Texas facility, as well as  the US’ first utility-scale solar plus storage facility in Rutland, Vermont and the US’ largest net zero building in Los Angeles.

Raychem RPG is a joint venture of TE Connectivity, a $13 billion global provider of solutions in network, transportation, consumers and industrial markets, and RPG Enterprises, one of India’s fastest growing business groups with annual revenue of $3.5 billion.
