Solar-Storage Microgrid Construction Under Way at California Roofing Firm's HQ
Commercial roofing provider Best Contracting Services broke ground this week on a 264-kW microgrid at its corporate headquarters in Gardena, California.
The solar array will be balanced with a battery energy storage system. The microgrid is expected to produce more than 460 MWh of carbon-free energy annually to power company operations at the headquarters, offsetting some 425 metric tons of carbon dioxide previously emitted every year.
The project also will energize 19 electric vehicle charging stations to be installed at the Best Contracting Services site.
“This project reflects our vision for a sustainable, resilient future,” CEO Sean Taba said. “By integrating renewable energy with EV infrastructure, we are not only lowering our carbon footprint but also supporting the growing need for clean transportation solutions in our community.”
The 19 EV charging stations will be available to both employees and visitors, powered entirely by the solar-storage microgrid. Construction of the projects is expected to be completed by next year’s first quarter.
Commercial and industrial microgrids are growing as a part of the on-site power sector at both HQ and retail sites. South of Gardena in San Diego, HES Renewables is building a 1-MW solar array at the Ballast Point Brewery in San Diego.
Microgrid developer GreenStruxure has built, operates and maintains numerous microgrids for Bimbo Bakeries USA’s manufacturing sites in California.
