New York is again accepting applications for advanced building funds, the final of six solicitations that offered a total of $25 million.
The state is working on improving its aging building stock. Over 80 percent of existing buildings in New York were built before the first oil embargo of 1973.
New York State Energy & Research Development Authority seeks proposals that develop and demonstrate advanced energy performance of both new and existing buildings. The buildings may be used for residential, multi-family or commercial purposes.
The program funds a range of construction materials, strategies and practices, among them:
- HVAC and lighting technologies
- Automation technologies enabling load flexibility and smarter background operations
- Building integrated renewable energy systems
- New policies, regulations or assessments.
NYSERDA also seeks proposals for activities that remove inadvertent barriers to wider use of promising technologies.
Proposals will receive added consideration if they increase building resiliency, recovery, and adaptability to electric grid disruptions.
Winning projects must use innovative energy-efficient products or technologies. They must integrate high-performance approaches or renewable energy and have broad impact on specific building types or sectors.
This is the last of six rounds of funding begun in 2013 to distribute $25 million in advanced building funding.
The program allots up to $100,000 per project for research and development, with a preferred 20 percent applicant cost share. Up to $500,000 is available for project development with a preferred 50 percent cost share, and up to $300,000 for project demonstration with a preferred cost share of 40 percent.
Proposals are due Sept. 17, 2015 to NYSERDA.
