DTE to Issue Energy Efficiency RFP Seeking Two-Year Contracts

Detroit-based DTE Energy plans to issue an energy efficiency RFP to replace expiring contracts with vendors, and is asking those interested to contact the company no later than Dec. 11, 2015.

Detroit-based DTE Energy plans to issue a request for proposals (RFP) to replace expiring contracts with vendors, and is asking those interested to contact the company no later than Dec. 11, 2015.

The diversified company, which includes an electric utility serving 2.1 million customers in Southeastern Michigan and a natural gas utility serving 1.2 million customers in the state, will seek two-year contracts with vendors.

The energy efficiency RFP is intended to continues DTE’s current programs. To that end, the contracts will focus on appliance recycling; heating, ventilation and air conditioning, home performance with insulation and windows; and lighting and appliances.

The program scope includes:

  • Achieving energy savings within the prescribed program budget
  • Offering marketing, retail program management, rebate processing and recycling of appliances and management of trade ally networks.
  • Conducting outreach events to educate customers about the impact of their energy usage and further their energy-efficiency journey

DTE’s energy efficiency programs in 2014 – the most recent year for which statistics are available — will save $585 million over the lifetime of their energy-saving upgrades. The programs also will create $4.5 billion in customer savings and other economic benefits through 2029, according to DTE.

For residential customers, the company offers an app to track and manage real-time energy use. The DTE Insight app has been downloaded about 90,000 times on to Android phones, iPhones and now Apple watches, since it became available in 2014, according to the company. The app links cell phones and other mobile devices to advanced meters on a customer’s premises.
